Things to Do in Ibiza, Sun Up to Sundown

An Ibiza Travel Guide could take many forms; but in this take, we’re basing ourselves in the heart of the Ibiza Town where you’ll have unfettered access to the island’s hallmark hot spots.

An escape for decades for artists, creatives, and musicians alike, the colorful island of Ibiza is so much more than its party scene. This seaside escape is filled with culinary gems, bespoke art and shopping, and yes, eclectic nightlife that ensures fun for all. Our friends at The Standard have just debuted with their latest opening, The Standard Ibiza, offering you a new place to call home in the Balearics.

Stay

The Standard Ibiza is your home base for this Ibiza travel guide. This hotel is a year-round adults-only haven set in the heart of Ibiza Town. Embracing the island’s bohemian history, the property was designed to blend 1960s Flower Power chic with the island’s naturally lush identity. The collection’s signature bright and eclectic identity is present throughout, from the rooftop pool to their corner suites. Its location is also ideal, fronting the island’s main plaza, Vara de Rey, in the heart of Ibiza’s Old Town and a stone’s throw away from the marina.

Do you have a larger group looking to commemorate a celebration? Working with your SmartFlyer travel advisor to secure an Ibiza villa rental right next door to the hotel. The Standard has villa guests covered with their exclusive private residence, Casa Privada. This is the hotel’s freestanding 14-bedroom five-floor residence includes two Terrace Suites with outdoor tubs. This Ibiza villa rental also offers a rooftop pool, bar, gym, and private lounge; it’s perfect for large friend groups and families seeking a private home experience within this seaside city.

But First, Café: Breakfast in Ibiza

…all guarantee you front-row seats to the warm island sunrise.

While Ibiza is known for its electric nightlife, mornings on the island are not to be overlooked. For a relaxing start to the day, we recommend heading up to The Standard Ibiza’s rooftop restaurant, UP, for a sumptuous breakfast. Another option for local fare is La Cava, just down the street from the hotel in Vara de Rey, the island’s main square. If you’re looking for seaside views to go with your brew, then head to Cappuccino Marina Eivissa. A serving of their cheesecake and cappuccino is a decadent kickstart to your day. Whether it’s poolside on a rooftop, atop a terrace, or by the sea, all guarantee you front-row seats to the warm island sunrise.

We recommend following breakfast with a trip to one of the city’s many open-air marketplaces. Mercat Vell is a 19th-century Greek-inspired outpost at the center of the city; this thriving farmer’s market is filled with fresh produce, flowers, snacks, and legendary tuna bocatas. Croissant Show Eivissa is nearby for a mid-morning pick-me-up. Another alternative is a morning hike up to the top of the Castle of Ibiza. At its highest point, the castle offers sweeping views of the city and coastline that inspire further exploration of the city throughout the day.

If you and your group are looking for an offshore experience for the day, then let our Ibiza travel guide point you toward the island’s ports. Your SmartFlyer travel advisor can help you plan the perfect day trip to Formentera – the third Balearic island to complete the trifecta alongside Ibiza and Mallorca. This quiet island located just 25 minutes south of Ibiza is filled with beautiful hikes and beaches. For example, their green routes lead hikers through sweeping wheatfields, pine forests, and local vineyards.

Exploring Formentera’s coastline is not to be missed, including cave diving at Punta Rasa and snorkeling off of its white-sand beaches. If you’re looking for some of the best beach bars on Formentera before your return to Ibiza, there’s no shortage of options. Gecko Beach Club will offer your more traditional party scene. Alternatively, if you’re seeking a more low-key, rosé-fueled afternoon, Casa Pacha has become a new island favorite.

Afternoon Shopping in Ibiza’s Old Town

If you elected to stay on Ibiza and explore downtown, then our Ibiza travel guide recommends a self-guided shopping tour through the local neighborhoods. Also known as Dalt Vila (“High Town”), there are a colorful mix of local and well-known shops just a short walk from The Standard Ibiza. For the uninitiated, Ibiza’s style is distinctly bohemian. Here, many designer brands and local boutiques blend their own style with the region’s distinct sense of hippie-inspired freedom. You can find the island’s distinct Adlib fashion throughout these busy streets, especially near the Elvissa Harbour. Just a few minutes away is the Marina Botafoch where you can find staple brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Prada.

A highlight amongst Ibiza’s shopping scene is Elisa Pomar’s jewelry collection. Pomar’s pieces blend family tradition with modern cosmopolitan sensibility; her great-grandfather was known across the island as “the king’s jeweler” with King Alfonso XIII frequenting his jewelry. These ornate pieces also fit well in an ensemble from Charo Ruiz. This boutique features pieces that fully embrace the island’s beach chic vibes. For a truly eclectic shopping experience though, definitely do not miss SLUIZ. Part-market and part-dining-experience, their slogan “Don’t be afraid of the colour” rings true throughout the rows of sculptures, artisanal goods, and their minimalistic bar-restaurant.

For lunch, we recommend La Torreta, located directly inside a 12th-century defense tower. Restaurant Ca n’Alfredo is another option; this is one of the island’s oldest restaurants and serves a delicious spread of local Ibizan cuisine. If you have a bit more time to explore beyond the confines of town, La Paloma is a beloved favorite amongst locals. As dusk begins to set in, explore the city’s winding white streets on your way back to the hotel to ready yourself for an evening out. The marina views are sure to stir up inspiration for an impromptu photoshoot. If you need help cooling down, then head over to Below Zero for a refreshing cup of rolled ice cream.

Where’s the Best Place to Go in Ibiza for Nightlife?

The marina views are sure to stir up inspiration for an impromptu photoshoot.

An Ibiza travel guide wouldn’t be complete without a glimpse into the iconic nightlife. But, Ibiza also offers plenty of quieter evening experiences throughout the city. Roto is a reservation-only local favorite for its cuisine and vibe. Working with your SmartFlyer travel advisor to book ahead ensures you front row seats to the golden Balaeric sunset while dining on the freshest Spanish cuisine. After dinner, we recommend continuing your evening down by the port located directly out of Vara de Rey. This area offers a wide range of local bars and lounges serving wonderful cocktail bars and cozy music acts.

If you’re looking for something a bit splashier, then the island shines brightest when the sun begins lowering behind the horizon. Lio offers an elevated cabaret and club experience; this nightlife hotspot is filled with extravagant theatrical performances and vibrant cuisine. Alternatively, the emblematic Pacha Club is also just walking distance from The Standard Ibiza. This legendary club has been a go-to for nightlife enthusiasts since its opening in 1973, featuring world-class DJs all year round. A true local favorite though is Las Dalias de Ibiza. Since 1954, this hippie market has become a rousing night market filled with unique shopping opportunities, music, and dance. For example, the Namaste festival invites a wide range of local and international musicians for a rousing party that lasts well into the early morning.

Seeking iconic Ibiza nightlife that’s a little closer to your home base at the hotel? The Standard is quickly becoming known across Ibiza Town for being one of the city’s premier rooftop party scenes. Since the brand’s establishment in Hollywood back in 1998, The Standard is known to attract a dazzling crowd. For example, their Ibiza rooftop bar, Up, has played host to guests the likes of Florence Pugh, Shygirl, Rina Lipa, and Maximilian Davis. Here, you can cap off the night with a signature, citrussy Balearic Mule while you dance till dawn no more than an elevator ride to your dream-like bed.
