The Brecon

Adelboden, Switzerland

A high-altitude Alpine hideaway in Adelboden with the soul of the '60s and '70s.

Property Overview

A new high-altitude hideaway in Adelboden, The Brecon is a thoughtful blend of relaxed elegance and crafted chalet culture, an honest revival that captures not just the glamorous style but also the smooth soul of the '60s and '70s. Recast within the original timbered hotel framework from 1914, it offers eighteen rooms and four generous suites designed by Amsterdam-based studio Nicemakers, with interiors that marry contemporary style and mid-century nostalgia. Earthy palettes, tactile finishes, and art from Amsterdam's Bisou Gallery adorn the walls – and without TVs, the focus stays firmly on the Adelboden Massif views outside.

Accommodations

An intelligent and wondrously comfortable home.

The Brecon's eighteen rooms and four suites are appointed with a mix of vintage and contemporary furniture, art from Amsterdam's Bisou Gallery, books, magazines, and natural fabrics like wool, linen, and cotton throughout. The feel is less a hotel room and more an intelligently designed, wonderfully comfortable home. All look out over the Adelboden Massif.
Pool + Gym

Soak up the views of the Adelboden Massif from the water.

Take a dip in the heated pool, which is kept at a steady ninety-three degrees, while soaking in the stunning backdrop of the Adelboden Massif.
Spa

Unwinding in the Alps.

The Brecon's spa keeps things refreshingly simple. Sink into the sauna with sweeping views of the Alps, or let the steam room do its work and melt your stresses away. Sometimes that's all you need.
Restaurant + Bar

From the open kitchen to the chef's table, all meals included.

The Brecon's open kitchen is available throughout the day, with all meals included in your stay. Breakfast runs from eggs, pancakes, and muesli to local cured meats, artisan bread, pastries, and fresh fruit. After a day in the mountains, afternoon tea brings sandwiches, brownies, and homemade cakes. Come evening, an apéritif by the pool leads into dinner at the chef's table, where a seasonal menu comes with an excellent wine pairing. And for after dinner, why not find a perch in the comfortable lounge, ordering your favorite cocktail or a nightcap from the well-stocked bar.
  • Vibe
The Swiss Alps without the après-ski circus, just the serene pace of mountain life and a fine eye for comfortable details and service.
  • Who's it for?
We love The Brecon for travelers who know exactly what they want from time off: somewhere quiet, easy, and relaxing. It's a great fit if you're the kind of traveler who appreciates great service, privacy, and a hotel where everything just works. Guests tend to be between thirty-five and seventy-five, well-traveled, and done with the performance of high-profile resorts. If they want to bring friends around last minute or have an asado with Cava on a mountainside, the team will make it happen without making a fuss.
  • Location
Adelboden sits in the Bernese Alps, roughly two hours from Zurich and forty miles from Bern. It is a quiet, unhurried ski town that operates at a different frequency to St. Moritz or Gstaad, full of picture-perfect chalets, delightful restaurants serving authentic Swiss delicacies, and traditional shops that offer a glimpse into local culture. Around seventy percent of visitors to the hotel are Swiss, which says something about its authenticity. The village has 3,500 inhabitants and a strong sense of local culture, including a late June tradition where farmers festoon their dairy cows with floral headdresses and bells to parade them up to the alpine meadows for summer grazing. In winter it's a FIS World Cup ski destination; in summer, the hiking and biking trails through the alpine meadows take over. The Brecon sits in the middle of all of it.
