Dunton Hot Springs

Dolores, Colorado

A restored nineteenth-century ghost town in the Colorado Rockies, operating as an all-inclusive Relais & Châteaux retreat with natural hot springs year-round.

Property Overview

Dunton Hot Springs occupies a beautifully restored ghost town from the late nineteenth century, tucked into the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. Fourteen cabins have been carefully brought back to life while retaining their original character, and the all-inclusive model covers all meals, beverages, and alcohol with no resort fees or service charges. The hot springs are open year-round, and the surrounding wilderness shifts the activity roster dramatically by season: summer brings high-elevation hiking up to twelve thousand feet, fly fishing, horseback riding, and mountain biking, while winter offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing, and snowmobiling.

Agent Tips

  • Book the private sleigh ride followed by dinner in the private dining room above the saloon, one of the more memorable evenings the Rockies can offer.
Accommodations

A restored and historic Colorado town.

The fourteen cabins, ranging from one to five bedrooms, are all original structures from the ghost town, fully restored and continually refined. Parachute Home linens and mattresses are standard throughout, with Aesop bath products, daily housekeeping, and turndown service. Rather than in-room coffee machines, tea and coffee are delivered to each cabin each morning based on your preference.
Pool + Gym

A no-frills mountain gym with a hot springs chaser.

A small fitness facility with cardio machines and free weights, set against mountain views, ideal for maintaining your routine. Afterwards, relax in the surrounding natural beauty, or jump into the nearby hot spring to soothe any aches.
Spa

In-cabin treatments in the heart of the Rockies.

In-room spa services are available in select cabins, covering full-body treatments and facials using Susanne Kaufmann products from Austria.
Restaurant + Bar

Daily-changing menus and everything included.

Menus change daily and are built around high-quality ingredients, with full accommodation for dietary requirements and allergies. All meals and beverages, including top-shelf alcohol, are covered in the all-inclusive rate, with a reserve list available for specialty spirits and aged wines.

For drinks, you can enjoy a world-class wine list and top-shelf spirits inside the original saloon bar from the 1800s, where, by local legend, Butch Cassidy stopped in after robbing the bank in Telluride.
  • Vibe
Unobtrusive service, casual setting, and serious wilderness.
  • Who's it for?
We love Dunton Hot Springs for couples looking for a genuinely off-grid escape with strong food and wine; families who want space and adventure without the theme-park feel; and multigenerational groups, with the property working well for full buyouts. Solo travelers are well looked after too, with a communal dining table to ensure meals turn into a social occasion.
  • Location
Dunton sits about forty-five minutes from the small town of Dolores and an hour and a half from Telluride. For those building a wider Southwest itinerary, Monument Valley is about three hours away and Amangiri is approximately five hours.
