Agent Tips

  • Rise before dawn for some of the best wildlife sightings—the golden morning light and cooler temperatures make for especially rewarding game drives and photography.
  • Don’t miss a bush breakfast. Breakfast in the heart of the Mara is a magical way to soak up the landscape between game drives.
  • Make time for Eleanor’s sundowners, where drinks in a spectacular setting accompany the sun setting over the Mara and stories from the day’s adventures.
Accommodations

Under-canvas character meets contemporary comfort on the banks of the Sand River.

Sala’s Camp can accommodate up to eighteen guests across seven spacious tents, including two family suites and two secluded honeymoon tents. The accommodations pair space and comfort with serene wilderness views and an immersive Masai Mara safari experience. When Sala’s Camp first opened as a permanent Masai Mara tented camp in 2006, guests slept in traditional mobile safari tents with bucket showers, and that feeling of being fully immersed in nature was part of the draw. In 2016 and again in 2017, all seven tents were refurbished with contemporary touches and elegant interiors while retaining the character of an under-canvas safari. Guests still enjoy a sense of seclusion and a close connection to the surrounding wilderness. Today, all tents feature en-suite bathrooms with hot showers, separate bathtubs, running water, and flushing toilets. Electricity is solar-powered, with a standby generator for cloudier days. After a game drive, guests can retreat to a private riverside deck and plunge pool, curl up with a book, watch for wildlife across the riverbank, or simply take in the landscape and reflect on the day’s sightings.
Gym

Workouts come with birdsong and savanna views.

Sala’s Camp makes it easy to stay active without stepping away from the wilderness. The bush gym sits beneath a spacious canvas tent tucked among the trees, creating a calm, light-filled setting with birdsong and sweeping savanna views. Each tent also includes a personal “gym-in-a-bag” with a yoga mat, jump rope, and post-safari stretch card for easing tired muscles on the deck after a day in the Mara.
Spa

The sounds of the bush set the tone for slowing down.

After a day on the plains, the safari spa offers a peaceful place to unwind while the sounds of the bush drift through the air. Two double treatment rooms each have a private deck overlooking the wilderness, creating an intimate setting for solo or couples treatments. Deep tissue massage, aromatherapy, and rejuvenating facials can be tailored to individual needs, making restoration feel naturally connected to the landscape.
