Rhiannon Monks Adelaide Specialties Food & Wine, Ski, Spa & Wellness

Knowing travel is rooted in the art of curiosity, Rhiannon crafts remarkable journeys shaped entirely around her client’s interests, passions, and the experiences they value most.

Rhiannon has never been one for staying in one place for too long. In conjunction with living in London for over fifteen years, she has called India, Argentina, Colombia, Poland, Canada, California, Sydney and Adelaide home, all while having travelled to more than eighty-six countries along the way. Living in different places—rather than simply passing through—taught her to look beyond the obvious to find the restaurant locals love, the winery that isn’t in the guidebooks, and the lesser-known experiences abroad that often become her clients’ trip highlights. That curiosity, combined with her genuine love of discovering new places and connecting people with them, sits at the heart of her company, The Meridian Coterie.

Europe remains a particular area of expertise for Rhiannon, a specialty shaped by the many years she spent living and travelling across the continent. She also loves designing journeys throughout Australia, including her home state of South Australia. Whether it’s a wine-focused escape, a golf trip to one of the world’s most stunning courses, a ski holiday in the Alps or a restorative wellness retreat, Rhiannon enjoys getting to know what makes each client tick and shaping a journey around it. For her, a memorable trip is one where the important details are taken care of, but there’s still plenty of room to wander, linger over a long lunch, and discover something unexpected. Above all, she wants her clients to come home feeling that they truly experienced a place, rather than simply having visited it.

What has been your most memorable travel experience to date?

This is a very difficult one! I’d probably have to choose between staying in the Galápagos Islands, taking a hot air balloon over Cappadocia at sunrise, and travelling by Trans-Siberian Railway through Russia, Mongolia and China. Each was memorable in a completely different way… the unique wildlife and remoteness of the Galápagos, the surreal beauty of seeing hundreds of balloons in the sky at sunrise over the Fairy Chimneys in Turkey, and the adventure of watching three very different countries unfold from a train window. I think that’s why choosing one favourite is so difficult, as I firmly believe the best travel memories aren’t necessarily about the destination, but about how a place makes you feel.

Which destinations or hotels do you go back to again and again? Why?

Austria is a destination I find myself returning to again and again because it offers such an extraordinary combination of culture, adventure, food, and wellbeing. I love the decadence and grandeur of Vienna, the energy and exceptional skiing of St. Anton, and the beauty of Salzburg, which feels almost cinematic in every season. In summer, I particularly enjoy getting out onto the lakes around Innsbruck or cycling through the Wachau Valley along the Danube, stopping at wineries to try a new Riesling and stopping to eat in picturesque villages along the way. Not to mention the opportunity to slow things down completely with a rejuvenating spa stay in many of the retreats and mineral baths across the country.
