Relaxing, Romantic, Zen
The rooms at Bayan Tree Mayakoba are all stand-alone villas with private pools. The villas are spacious with cozy beds, tall ceilings and offer complete privacy for couples or families.
Some of the rooms have large outdoor bathtubs. So you can order a romantic, candlelit bubble bath or even a mud bath to be prepared in your villa if you want a relaxing night in! Most of the rooms are on the lagoon, but they provide two complimentary bikes. The beach is only a few minutes away by bike.
Don’t want to bike? No worries! The staff here will pick you up in a golf cart! I recommend the three-bedroom residence for families with small children because all of the rooms are on the same floor.
There is a pool at the beach club with great views of the ocean. This is the perfect spot to relax. For families, the reflections pool — located in the center of the property — also has a wading pool for small kids.
In terms of gym facilities, there is a fitness center with modern equipment located directly across from the Banyan Tree Spa. If you enjoy outdoor sports, there is a world-class golf course within the Mayakoba complex as well as tennis courts, archery and kayaking.
There is also a three-mile-long nature trail. Guests can go for a run, walk, or take a bike out. Yoga classes are available too.
The spa treatment rooms are private villas that sit over the lagoon. They are incredibly peaceful! All Banyan Tree Spa treatments come with a complimentary 30-minute “Calm Time” complete with refreshments and relaxation. Meaning, a 60-minute massage is part of a 9- minute treatment and you actually get a full hour of massage. Your treatment starts with a soothing foot bath and finishes with an herbal drink and refreshments.
I highly recommend scheduling the Rainforest Treatment before your massage or even all on its own. With alternating hot and cold thermal cabins, the “Rainforest” is a hydrothermal circuit designed to offer maximum wellness benefits. There are ten different hydrothermal experiences and they are each designed to soothe and revitalize different parts of your body. Some of the cabins even include scrubs and masks that you apply to your face and body. You’ll feel like you just had a facial!
Foodies will be in heaven at Banyan Tree Mayakaoba. There truly is a little something for everyone, from traditional Mexican to Thai to Italian cuisine. Or, if you want a special dining experience, there are several options for enjoying meals and tapas while cruising through the natural waterways and canals of Mayakoba. I recommend the tapas cruise!
Oriente: This spot is Mexican and international breakfast buffet. They have a large variety of offerings. I recommend trying the chilaquiles!
Sands: This is the beach club restaurant by the Caribbean Sea. They specialize in light snacks and fresh seafood. Local fishermen drop off the day’s catch at the restaurant and you are able to select a fish. The team will prepare it any way you want.
Saffron: This restaurant serves contemporary thai cuisine prepared by authentic thai chefs. The restaurant is on a wooden deck overlooking the mangroves. Bistro lights are strung overhead adding to the ambiance. It’s absolutely delicious!
Cello: For a taste of Northern Italy, check out this spot. The cuisine served in a water-side courtyard. It’s worth noting that the chef here trained under the team at the famous Grand Tremezzo Hotel.
HAAB: This place makes for special dining experience. They put on a show that focuses on the culture and cuisine of the Yucatan Peninsula. Definitely a great way to feel connected to the destination.
Check out the Beach Shack to enjoy a daiquiri, margarita, or a cold beer on the beach. This quaint spot has a laid-back, Caribbean vibe. La Copa Lounge offers an excellent selection of tequila and mezcal. Try the pineapple margarita or raspberry gimlet! They set-up a cigar station in the evening and offer a wide variety of hand-made cigars. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful Mayakoba sunsets. Lastly, both pools also feature a swim-up bar, so you can order cocktails while you cool down.
This is definitely a family-friendly property. There is a small Kids Club at the beach club that features an indoor playroom with video games and fun activities. They have plans to expand their Kid’s Club program in 2019 and 2020.
In terms of accommodations, there are several family friendly options. Plus, there are complimentary eco-tours offered throughout the day that so the entire family has a chance to explore the nature and wildlife of the mangroves.
Banyan Tree Mayakoba offers a baby turtle release program twice a year. This is a special experience for families! Not to mention, if your family is adventurous, you can take a guided archery class or enjoy a guided kayaking tour through the mangroves. More into sports and want to golf as a family? The Jim MClean golf school is great for beginners and avid golfers.
