Property Overview

Once a historic sheep farm, Deplar Farm is camouflaged by a living roof and roaming sheep which outnumber humans by 2:1. Permeated with notes of its rugged legacy, the space holds Icelandic literature, driftwood from the nearby sea, and stones from the Fljótaá River. Deplar Farm’s 28,000 square feet are enclosed with floor-to-ceiling windows, striking its visitors with unimaginable views of peaks towering over the immaculate Fljót Valley. With thirteen en suite bedrooms, guests enjoy a selection of king suites with mezzanine-style lofts. Each feature hammocks and lounging beds, as well as a variety of Nordic queen and bunk room accommodations. The bedrooms envelop guests in a cozy cocoon, blanketed in sheepskin, Moroccan wools, and textured walls. All rooms are equipped with steam showers that emit geothermally-heated spring water. An entertainment area with billiards, foosball, and a ping pong table complements guests’ stay, providing a 360-degree experience.

Deplar Farm’s wellness team exceeds guest expectations with targeted fitness sessions and yoga flows, held in the stunning workout facility featuring sweeping views of the surrounding scenery. Deplar Farm’s remote setting emphasizes onsite meals prepared by Iceland’s 2018 Chef of the Year, Garðar Kári Garðarsson. In keeping with the Icelandic classics, Arctic char, Atlantic salmon, and skyr are top of the menu. Brennivín and fermented shark are traditional dishes many guests enjoy tasting from the family-style seating of the dining room. Local ingredients always fill the table, as farmers and fishermen make frequent visits to share their crops and catch.

The Bar

Deplar Farm has no shortage of après hangouts. Favorites include the swim-up pool bar and the offsite bar at the Ghost Farm outpost, an intimate, picturesque mountain hideout accessed by snowmobile. For an unforgettable night, the lodge’s main bar animates guests with a lofted stage equipped with over thirty instruments, laser lights, and a smoke machine. A regionally-inspired menu of unique cocktails, a wide range of craft beers from local breweries, and a variety of wines from the extensive cellar offer guests a beverage selection that impresses even the pickiest of palates.
