Property Overview

Monwana Game Lodge sits within a fourteen-thousand-hectare reserve sharing an unfenced border with the Greater Kruger National Park, home to the Big Five, exceptional birdlife, and ancient geological formations. The lodge itself was designed around a well-established leadwood tree, and sustainability has shaped every architectural decision. Six suites and a private Residence overlook an active waterhole fed by the lodge's own grey water management system, while the seasonal Monwana River running alongside brings frequent and unprompted wildlife encounters. Game drives and bush walks with expert field guides and trackers fill out the days.

Accommodations

A comfortable base in Greater Kruger.

Monwana's six suites and two-bedroom Residence sit within Thornybush Nature Reserve, each designed with privacy and sustainability in mind and making for a comfortable base for an adventure in Greater Kruger. The four standard suites are configured for two guests, with a private deck, heated plunge pool, fans and underfloor heating run on green power, and quality linens and amenities throughout. The two Family Suites accommodate up to five guests across two bedrooms, the second room with twin beds and an optional extra, as well as a shaded deck, heated plunge pool, and heated towel rails, all on the same sustainable power setup.
Pool + Gym

Private plunge pools with views of the bush.

Each suite comes with a private heated plunge pool on a shaded deck overlooking the bush. For something more social, there's also a main pool at the lodge. The fitness center offers weightlifting equipment, cardio machines, and yoga–everything you need to keep up your routine while on safari.
Spa

Ancient remedies and African botanicals.

Monwana's spa treatments are rooted in African botanical ingredients, many drawn from ancient tribal remedies. Each session opens with a foot and scent ritual and a short meditative exercise before moving into the treatments themselves, which range from massages and facials to bath rituals.
Restaurant + Bar

Seasonal cuisine and alfresco dining.

The bistro-style dining features fresh, healthy, seasonal, and ethically sourced cuisine. Sip on South African wines as you share stories from the day's game drive, while the kitchen team takes you on a journey through the best local dishes. The experience is made all the better thanks to the dining location, whether it's at the lodge or under the stars–no two dining experiences are the same. When it comes to drinks, the lodge stocks a well-curated list of local South African wines, as well as all the top-shelf spirits you'd expect for safari sundowners.
  • Vibe
An eco-friendly safari lodge brimming with adventure and a strong connection to the land.
  • Who's it for?
Monwana works well for couples after a private, design-conscious safari, families and groups of friends making use of the Residence or Family Suites, and small groups of colleagues looking for something well removed from the everyday. The leopard sightings and eco credentials give wildlife enthusiasts and conservation-minded travelers plenty of reason to choose it too.
  • Location
Monwana sits within Thornybush Nature Reserve, a fourteen-thousand-hectare private reserve sharing an unfenced border of nearly fourteen miles with the Greater Kruger National Park. The combination of rivers, varied landscapes, and dense vegetation makes for exceptional wildlife density, and the area is particularly well regarded for leopard sightings, Africa's most elusive cat.
