Rooms + Suites

Private and tranquil retreats.

There are six canvas-draped suites with a spacious indoor and outdoor lounge area overlooking the bush. Each suite has a private wooden deck with a heated plunge pool and an indoor/outdoor shower offering a private and tranquil retreat. Each tented suite exudes an elegant yet inviting ambience, featuring romantic interior draping and bespoke Indian doors that juxtapose global aesthetics with the African wilderness. Guests are treated to sophisticated design elements, such as Persian rugs, tailored furniture, and vintage-inspired patterns, while enjoying modern amenities. The distinctive theme of each tented suite elevates the experience. From feminine pinks and vintage florals to Asian-inspired blues and reds, the designs cater to diverse tastes. Marrakech-style pots, earthy greens, and bold, vibrant artwork infuse the interiors with cultural and artistic flair. The décor harmoniously blends luxury with nature, ensuring every detail contributes to an unparalleled sense of place and indulgence.
Pool

A sense of privacy in a natural setting.

The lodge features an outdoor lap pool set alongside a large timber deck. The pool is long and narrow, ideal for light exercise or cooling off. It has wide entry steps at one end for easy access and is positioned directly next to the main living area. The deck is spacious and fully usable for lounging and entertaining. There is covered seating under a roofed veranda with ceiling fans, making it comfortable in warmer weather. Sliding glass doors connect the indoor lounge and dining area directly to the pool deck, creating an easy indoor–outdoor flow.

In addition to the covered lounge seating, there is outdoor dining space further along the deck, as well as a built-in wood-fired oven/pizza oven area. The space is well-lit in the evenings with lantern-style lighting along the deck, so guests can comfortably use the pool and outdoor areas after dark. The pool and deck are surrounded by mature trees, offering a sense of privacy and a natural setting. This area works well for couples, families with older children, or small groups looking for a relaxed outdoor entertaining space rather than a resort-style communal pool.
Restaurant

Relaxed daytime meals and informal evening dinners.

The primary dining area is set outdoors on the main timber deck, positioned alongside the pool. The tables are shaded by large umbrellas, providing protection from direct sun during breakfast and lunch service. The layout works well for communal dining but can also be arranged to suit smaller parties depending on occupancy. The outdoor dining space is directly connected to the main living areas, allowing for smooth service flow from the kitchen and bar. Its position near the pool and lounge area makes it convenient for relaxed daytime meals as well as informal evening dinners. In addition to the deck dining space, there is a fully enclosed indoor dining room. This space is air-conditioned during summer months and heated in winter, ensuring year-round comfort. It provides a climate-controlled alternative in cases of extreme heat, cooler evenings, or inclement weather, and is suitable for guests who prefer a more traditional indoor dining environment.
Bar

A range of wines, spirits, beers, and cocktails.

The lodge bar is a fully serviced, indoor space located within the main guest area. The bar is staffed and offers a range of wines, spirits, beers, and cocktails. Seating includes upholstered bar stools with backs for comfort, and there is additional lounge seating nearby in the main living area. Lighting is warm and ambient, making it appropriate for evening use without being overly formal. This space works well for couples and small groups looking for a comfortable, hosted bar environment within the lodge rather than a separate or high-energy standalone bar venue.
  • Vibe
Elegant yet inviting, with the essence of the African bush throughout.
  • Who's it for?
Masiya's Camp is ideal for well-traveled guests who appreciate sophisticated interiors, curated décor, and elevated culinary experiences. Wildlife enthusiasts wanting exceptional guiding from one of Africa’s most qualified teams, along with conservation-minded travelers interested in hands-on conservation and community experiences, will feel right at home. We also love it for couples looking for romantic, design-forward suites with private plunge pools and small groups of friends or milestone celebrations (up to twelve guests across six suites).
  • Location
Masiya's Camp is located in the Thornybush Game Reserve, a well-established private reserve bordering the Greater Kruger National Park, offering access to the unfenced ecosystem and exceptional Big Five viewing. Logistically, it is one of the easiest private reserves in South Africa to access. Guests can fly commercially into Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport via daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town, followed by a short road transfer of approximately twenty to thirty minutes to most lodges within the reserve. This combination of strong wildlife viewing and straightforward air access makes Thornybush particularly convenient for international travelers and multi-stop South African itineraries.
