Located just steps from the hotel lobby on the ground floor of the heritage Masonic Building, kingi serves fresh, locally sourced food prepared in thoughtful, innovative, and approachable ways. Named after kingfish, the restaurant celebrates the bounty of Aotearoa through sustainably caught, grown, and gathered ingredients, working with independent local fishers, farmers, hunters, and growers. The menu extends beyond sustainable seafood to seasonal produce, sustainably farmed meats, and wild ingredients that reflect New Zealand’s oceans, rivers, paddocks, and forests. Warm, elegant, and relaxed, kingi is open from early until late, welcoming both hotel guests and locals for coffee, breakfast, lunch, cocktails, and dinner. At kingi, the bar is a relaxed extension of the restaurant, offering drinks, snacks, and fuller plates from early morning through evening. The beverage program reflects kingi’s connection to place, with distinctive wines and drinks that speak to New Zealand provenance, along with cocktail-focused occasions such as Tunes in Tuawhiti and its monthly Cocktails for a Cause. The Libraries Lounge offers a more intimate, art-filled setting above the bustle of Britomart. Located on Level one of the Buckland Masonic Building, the lounge features works by Ralph Hotere and Shane Cotton alongside exposed brick that reveals layers of the building’s history. When not in use for a private event, in-house guests have complimentary access and can stop in for a drink, meal, wine tasting, or quiet moment from three in the afternoon.
