What has been your most memorable travel experience to date?

Renting a car upon arriving in Italy and learning what a huge mistake it was to be navigating a new country while jet lagged! Long before I became a travel advisor, my husband and I decided to self-drive from the airport in Rome to our romantic Tuscan retreat in Montepulciano. We don’t speak a word of Italian and our directions were vague at best. We ended up driving through a pedestrian-only area, nearly barreling down a staircase into a crowd full of people, and found ourselves sweating it out while reversing down a one-way street with a steep cliff alongside us. What an incredibly stressful way to start the trip! We laugh about it now, but trust me when I advise you to take that private transfer on arrival!

Botswana is at the very top of my travel list, and the more I learn about everything this destination has to offer, the more I understand why it occupies a singular place in the world of luxury travel. What sets it apart for me is how utterly unique it is — this is not the safari you’ve seen in magazines. The Okavango Delta is a place that defies logic: a massive inland river system that floods the Kalahari Desert each year, creating a labyrinth of waterways, islands and lagoons teeming with wildlife. Trading a game vehicle for a traditional mokoro canoe and gliding silently through papyrus channels while a hippo surfaces ten feet away — that’s the kind of moment that rewires you. Layer on top of that some of the most thoughtfully designed and breathtakingly located luxury camps in Africa, where the word “remote” feels like a privilege rather than an inconvenience, and Botswana starts to feel less like a destination and more like a calling. For my clients who feel they’ve done Africa, this is where I send them next — and I cannot wait to experience it alongside them.

What has been your most memorable travel experience to date?

Choosing just one travel experience feels nearly impossible, but the first that comes to mind is spending a full moonlit evening with my wife and an Incan shaman at Machu Picchu. We had the entire sanctuary to ourselves, the ancient stone terraces bathed in the soft glow of moonlight, creating an atmosphere of pure serenity and magic. As the shaman led us through a sacred ceremony, the energy of the place felt almost palpable — connecting us to the spiritual essence of the land. He spoke in Quechua, the language of the Inca, and even without understanding the words, their meaning somehow reached us. My perfect vacation day starts with a walk, whether it’s on a trail, along the shore, or in town. Breakfast is my favorite meal, so I’d ask the concierge for their top recommendation and ask for a table outside. Ideally, I’d be with some of my girlfriends who also like to be active. The perfect vacation day would be 40-75 degrees, and we’d spend a few hours hiking, biking, or kayaking. The perfect afternoon would involve a hammock and a book, and a food tour or dinner with a view.

Which destinations are you looking forward to visiting? Why?

If I could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, it would be Bali. I was meant to attend a family camp at Bali’s Green School, but like so many plans in 2020, travel was put on pause.

Japan and Singapore sit high on my bucket list, and I’d also love to return to Italy. I’ve visited Florence, Venice, and Rome, but Lake Como and the Amalfi Coast are still calling. I even have relatives living in Ravenna whom I’ve never met. And then there are the Dolomites, a place I’m especially eager to hike, as it’s known to be breathtaking natural beauty and mountain landscapes like these are my absolute favorite.

Montana is the perfect backdrop for a girls’ getaway, where the agenda will likely include horseback riding, long hikes, and late-night laughs over wine by the firepit. And then there’s Verbier this winter—a dream luxury ski retreat where I’ll happily balance days on the slopes with nights spent fully embracing après-ski culture. It’s hard to choose, but the trip I think about most often is my honeymoon to South Africa.
