Park City: A Guide for All Seasons

Contributed By Terri Hill

“Come for Winter and Stay for Summer” is the unofficial motto for Park City, Utah where our own Terri Hill is based. Not only known for hosting the famous, Sundance Film Festival, Park City is great for an array activities basically any time of year.  Bring your families, friends and the like -this guide has a little bit of something for every one.

How long have you been in Park City?

I moved to Park City in November of 2010 and instantly fell in love with the buzz and the energy of this little ski town.

What are the best places to stay in the area?

I absolutely love Montage Deer Valley! It’s the perfect ski-in/out location and there’s so much to do right on property from bowling, to arcades, an amazing spa and the best s’mores set up I’ve ever seen! From Waldorf at the Canyons to Stein Eriksen, to Montage Deer Valley and St Regis, there are so many great luxury properties in Park City, you really can’t go wrong.

Cocktail bars:

Best cocktails in town are at High West Distillery and Saloon. This locals spot makes the best drinks and great food. Where else can you ski into a whiskey distillery? Local winery, Old Town Cellars, is a great place to head for an apres ski glass of wine on main street. J&G Grill at St Regis has a killer margarita and the bar is lively and fun with fantastic views of the mountains.

My favorites for dinner are Riverhorse for classic, delicious food; Prime Steakhouse when I want a lively piano bar and a good steak; and Handle for creative appetizers and the best burger in town. Fireside dining on Deer Valley is a delicious, unique dining experience. They have four large fireplaces each featuring a different course from raclette to fire roasted meats to dessert fondue. For those nights when you just want some casual comfort food after a day of skiing, you can’t beat the pizza at Maxwell’s East Coast Eatery.

Best places for shopping:

There’s lots of great shopping on Main Street. I love Flight Boutique for that perfect vacation score. I stop in here every time I need an outfit for an event, or just want to treat myself to something new and fun. Another favorite is Prospect for amazing denim and those ski town must haves—sweaters, jackets, boots, scarves—for both men and women. For those incredible luxury splurges, Gorsuch offers an incredible selection for both men and women.

Best time of year to visit:

The unofficial town motto is “come for the winter, stay for the summer” and I love showing this place off in the summer months. While the skiing is world class and the energy of a ski town in the winter is so much fun, the peaceful swoosh of the Aspen trees and the perfect summer weather is tough to beat.

How is Park City for families?

Park City is my favorite mountain town for so many reasons, but perhaps the biggest is the accessibility. Easy direct flights from nearly everywhere into Salt Lake City and then an easy 40 minute drive to town. You can’t beat that for traveling with little ones. The town is extremely family friendly, with tons to do for kids from skiing, hiking, biking, fly fishing, dog sledding, sleigh rides and so much more.

Is it possible to get access to the Sundance festival?

For 10 days a year, Park City becomes the center of Hollywood during the Sundance Film Festival. The key to experiencing Sundance is access—movies, parties, screenings etc. Take advantage of our incredible network of local connections to make the most of any Sundance experience.

Other notable highlights for the area:

Don’t miss the bobsled ride at Utah Olympic park, one of only two places in the world where you can ride an actual Olympic bobsled track. A must for any adrenaline junkie!
