Maru’s curiosity about the world began while studying abroad in Switzerland, surrounded by classmates from around the world. Through those friendships, she discovered that the most meaningful way to experience a place is by forging relationships with the people who call it home. This belief continues to shape the way she travels today. Rather than simply checking places off a list, Maru seeks to understand what makes each one unique: its culture, traditions, and the people who bring it to life. A recommendation from a local will always mean more to her than a guidebook—and she passes on this valuable intel to her clients.
Africa holds a special place in Maru’s heart. The continent continues to inspire, surprise, and challenge the way she sees the world, always leaving her eager for her inevitable return. Whenever she travels, Maru is particularly drawn to family-owned hotels, lodges, and hospitality brands where a strong sense of identity is evident in every detail. This sensibility is evident in the recommendations she passes onto her clients, reaffirming that the most memorable places are those created with intention and heart.
Some places feel less like a hotel and more like having a home base in a city you love. For me, those places are Casa Polanco in Mexico City, Rosewood Villa Magna in Madrid, Fairmont Le Montreux Palace in Switzerland, and Rosewood Hong Kong. They’re places I return to time and time again.
I could never choose just one. A family trip through South Africa, discovering Bhutan and its culture, exploring the food scenes of Hong Kong and Mexico City, watching the sun set over the Serengeti, experiencing the silence of Antarctica, and getting lost in New York’s museums have all shaped the way I see the world.
