There’s more to the Condado Vanderbilt than meets the eye…The hotel, built in 1919, retains its original lobby; its grand, formal double level staircase and dark marble floors belie a very modern property. Sightlines through the lobby draw the eye to the vast Caribbean Sea beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows which surround the bar and lounge area. This lounge area serves as a convivial gathering place in the evenings with hotel guests and locals enjoying artisanal cocktails and live music.
City meets beach at this historic, yet fresh, San Juan property.
With 210 hotel guest rooms and 107 suites of varying size, Condado Vanderbilt provides guests with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Stay in a Heritage Room for french windows with views of San Juan. Or, upgrade to the Vanderbilt Presidential Suite which encompasses three bedrooms, a dining room, living room, kichenette, multiple bathrooms and a massive balcony. With 2,590 square feet to play with, you may even have a hard time making it to the beach when staying in this suite!
The property’s four pools (and whirlpool!) provide plenty of options for soaking up the rays. The larger pool is family friendly with plenty of lounge chairs to go around! The small adult pool offers a quiet spot to read or snooze under an umbrella. There is no shortage of staff to provide cool drinks and food poolside. The gym, located above the spa, is not just equipped, but ocean-facing! There’s even a large patio that you can take advantage of; I recommend taking your mat out there once you’re finished exercising to stretch outdoors.
If you book spa time, take advantage of their Hammam Ritual. Available for individuals or groups, this ancient ritual blended with some modern-day practices, will ease you into “vacation mode.”
A perfect culinary day would start with breakfast at Ola Oceanfront Bistro for cold pressed juice and farm fresh eggs. Then lunch at Tacos & Tequila, pool side. Don’t overthink this, and just order tacos and tequila. Progress to dinner at 1919 with Michelin Star-rated Executive Chef Juan Jose Cuevas for a prix fixe menu. The wine parings during this fine dining experience will delight even the most discerning of palates! Lastly, grab an after dinner drink for a cigar in the Avo Lounge.
The Rum Bar Pool Menu at Ola offers a Beach Bramble of Hendrick’s Gin, Chambord, and Fresh Lemon. It pairs well with the infinity pool and trendy tunes.
This property is best suited for families with teens and older kids. They can swim comfortably at the Spa Tower pool while parents take advantage of the sun deck if they need a bit more R&R.
